Second book I've read by this author and am still impressed. The story goes to a whole different level taking what little we know and expanding the possibilities. Great job!

Not what I was hoping for. Self loathing and drinking with an addition of evil supernatural beings. I will not be purchasing the next one.
Samuel Walker is irreverent. Kate is a firecracker. Daniel has probably never broken a rule in his life. This unlikely trio is sure to keep you laughing, grimacing, and facepalming in equal amounts, and you'll be hard-pressed to put this book down before you've finished it.
I discovered this book after receiving an advanced copy of #2. 10 pages in to #2 I was totally lost, and decided to go back to the first book. Well, since the second book was as good as the first, and I wrote the review of #2 first I decided that they both deserved the same # of stars.
The lead character is so screwed up that I felt sorry for the guy. Great character development, with an ending that leaves wanting more. Even demons can be loved too! #3 please!
I was a little apprehensive when I bought this. The last few books that I bought during a free or reduced promotion were literary disappointments. This one turned out to be very enjoyable! The author tells a well paced story with great characters and creative prose. There were some typos missed in editing throughout the story but, not so much, or so bad, that they pulled me too far out of the immersion. Well done Mr. Hein. I'll be buying the rest of the series!
Woah. This book is hefty. I’m not going to lie. It’s full of action, adventure, pockets of humor and very dark things. Tattered Souls is the first book in the Broken Souls series. It took me a while to get through this and I’m usually a fast reader. With that said, I very much enjoyed this book. I liked having a ‘hero’ that is hard to like. One moment I really felt for him and the next I was like seriously dude? By the end though I think Samuel really tries his best and despite that is actually a good person.
There is a lot of storytelling going on and I liked this new world. A great concept that all these other entities on Earth that we humans believe in are really bad and generally out to get us. Samuel and his rag tag team are really put through the ringer while investigating Kate’s brother’s death.
If you enjoy reading science fiction/fantasy books with a bit of humor, then I’d recommend this book. Very well written with interesting characters with unique personalities. Heck, even the demons are quite sarcastic.
